Thomas Muldoon 1843 to 1921

The Gloucester Advocate Saturday 8 October 1921
Mr. Thomas Muldoon.
Mr. Thomas Muldoon, an old and esteemed resident of Tinonee, died at his home in that town on Sunday last.
He was in the 80th year of his life.
The deceased gentleman had not been well for some time, but became very ill a few weeks ago.
About two years ago two of his sons — Messrs Robert and Thomas — died, and these events were a great shock to the
old gentleman, who felt the bereavement very keenly.
The late Mr. Muldoon, with his wife and family of stalwart young sons, came from Clarencetown to Tinonee about 35 years ago.
He was the pioneer of the timber expansion in this district, which led to much development, and such a short period, over 30 years ago,
when the back country was filled with the sounds of the axes and the whipcracks of the teamsters.
It was an active time. The sawmills in the different centres were in full swing, a fleet of sailing vessels traded regularly to
the river, especially to Tinonee, to take the prepared material.
A big trade was also done in girders, and the undulating forest lands were denuded of their wealth of ironbarks.
For a considerable period the late Mr. Muldoon worked successfully the sawmill at Tinonee, and he had horse teams and
bullock teams drawing logs to it.
He was a fine hand amongst horses, and a keen judge of the best points of those animals, especially draught horses, and he
frequently acted as judge in that section at the local shows.
The late Mr. Muldoon was an industrious pioneer and good citizen, justly held in high esteem, and he passed from this life enjoying the
confidence and respect of his fellows, and leaving behind him sons to perpetuate a worthy name.
He is mourned by a widow, who is in a rather delicate state of health, and the following family circle — Daughters— Mrs. J. Malford,
Wyong ; Mrs. H. J. Wallis, Morpeth, sons— Messrs Aaron, Tinonee; John, Orange and W. H. and D. C., Taree.
The remains of the deceased were buried in Tinonee cemetery on Monday last, in the presence of a large gathering. Canon Phillips
officiated at the ceremony.
