Death of Mrs. John Gollan.
After a somewhat lengthened illness, Mrs. John Gollan, snr, passed quietly away on Friday evening last, about 7 o’clock, at the ripe old age of 75 years, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. W. J. Ellis, Tinonee.
Mrs. Gollan was a native of Urray, Ross-shire. Scotland, where she was. born in 1815, and has resided on the Manning since the year 1853.
She was a devout and consistent member of the Presbyterian Church, of Eastern Australia, and her remains were consigned to their last resting place, in the Tinonee cemetery, on Saturday afternoon last, the Rev. S. P. Stewart , performing the last sad rites, in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and other mourners, and improving the occasion by a touching reference to the deceased lady’s Christian life and the necessity of preparation for death, which was sure to come to all- sooner or – later.
By her death, he had personally lost one of the best friends he had ever known on the Manning River.
The deceased leaves eight grown-up children (three daughters and five sons), who are all comfortably settled in life, besides an aged husband, to mourn their loss. Times, August 20th.
