Wingham Chronicle and Manning River Observer – Wednesday 18 July 1900

Obituary.

Our old and esteemed friend Mr. T. Dawson, senr, died on Thursday last, after a long illness, at his residence at
Tinonee, at the ripe old age of 85 years.
Mr. Dawson was one of the early pioneers of the river, and for years rented a farm on the Taree Estate,
from there he removed to Jones’ Island, where he lost his wife.
He then determined to travel so he set out for England and spent some time with his sister.
On arriving home he found some of his old friends still occupied as when they parted many years ago.
On his return he, decided to live retired and for this, purpose he purchased a nice little property in Tinonee,
and built a comfortable residence, and in time married again.
Since losing his second, wife his health has failed, and for months past, he has been cared for by his
grandchildren who administered to him in his last days.
Dr. Gormley was constantly in attendance.
On Friday his remains were laid to rest in the little cemetery at Tinonee, and the last sad rites were read by the
Rev. S. P. Stewart.
The number present showed in what great respect he was held by those who have known him for years.
