Obituary.

Mr. Peter James Clerke.

The death occurred at his home, Tinonee, about 6 o’clock on Sunday afternoon of Mr. Peter James Clerke, at the age of 60 years.

He was the fifth son of the late Mr. Seeward Clerke, of Tinonee, and Mrs. Clerke who survives.

The late Mr. Clerke was born at Tinonee and lived there all his life, following farming and other occupations, and was held in the highest respect.

He was of a vivacious temperament, hesitated not to say what he thought, but in a kindly way, and took a very keen interest in the affairs of the village.

His passing will leave a big gap amongst his personal acquaintances in the old town.

For some years he suffered from blood pressure, but it was not until about a month ago that he became seriously ill and he passed away at his home as stated.

He was married to Miss Maude Cameron, daughter of (he late Mr. and Mrs. John Cameron, of Tinonee, by whom he is survived; together with the following family: Mr. Len Clerke, Tinonee; Mr. Jack Clerke, Tinonee; Mr. Harold Clerke, Port Macquarie; and Colin, Tinonee. The daughter is Mrs. H. J. Walshe, of Bent Street, Wingham.

Brothers and sisters of deceased are: Mr. G. T. Clerke (Taree), Messrs Fred Clerke,  Robert and Seeward (Sydney), Mr. Richard Clerke (Tinonee), and Mrs. J. Stevens (Belmore, Sydney).

The remains were laid to rest in the Tinonee cemetery on Monday afternoon, the cortege leaving deceased’s late home at 3 o’clock.

The Rev. L. Ayscough, of Wingham Church of England, officiated at the grave.
